Overview
Dust Control Systems
Dust collection is a generic term but there are several types of dust control methods that are suitable for a process than others.
Often we see customers using the wrong type of machine for the dust control job. The process you perform will determine the kind of dust control system you should use.
Explain your process to Ruwac and we will offer a proven solution that is also OSHA or NFPA compliant. Below is a guide to help you identify what you need.
High Pressure Source Capture
This method for extracting materials directly at the source before it can escape and get airborne. This is done with either a hose, nozzle, dust extraction arm, or a hood.
These applications can involve collection of chips, fibers, stringy material and a wide variety dusts ranging from food products to metal powders.
Examples:
Hand tools: chop saws, orbital sanders, grinders, drills, saws, and pedestal grinders / sanders.
Equipment selected for this kind of work can also be used as a housekeeping vacuum. These are usually low CFM systems with high pressure.
Dedusting or Extraction of Fugitive Dust
In open processes where you want to capture fugitive dust to keep it from escaping into the workspace Ruwac will often use a dust extraction arm. These processes are typically open containers like drums, bags, bins and can even be mixing equipment like ribbon blenders or vertical mixers.
Some processes are more enclosed like dry material grinders or mills, screeners, and conveyors.
Depending on the process Ruwac will select the best fit for your application. These typically are higher CFM still with high pressure and the equipment can also double as a housekeeping vacuum.
High Volume (Low Pressure)
Designed to handle high volumes of air these systems can come in several forms:
- Collect dust from multiple locations simultaneously through a duct network.
- A ductless work station design that captures dust from very active process that can’t use a hood or nozzle.
- Control of dust within storage bins or silos without any duct.
