In our last post we discussed the importance of combustible dust training for you and your staff of employees. Today we’re going to go over a few resources you can use to help get your education started on the road to a safer workplace:
- OSHA Documents – Combustible dust explosion prevention is still a relatively new concept in industry. We are at a point in history where the information is being written now and could change at any moment. For this reason, checking back to the United States Department of Labor’s OSHA Publications page is always a great idea.
- US Chemical Safety Board – The US Chemical Safety Board is currently the organization that is most actively studying the effects of combustible dust in the workplace and has numerous reports that you can review to see which safety precautions and procedures might best fit your business.
- Combustible Dust National Emphasis Program – This document will assist in workplace inspection, as well as implementation of policies and procedures. This link is the latest version of this document, from 2008.
- Combustible Dust Housekeeping Guide – This document covers all the bases. Training your staff, tips for controlling combustible dusts, definitions, frequently asked questions, additional resources and more. If you’re just getting started, this is the document for you.
By using the above resources, you will decrease the likelihood of a dangerous accident happening at your place of business. Employees that are well educated on the dangers and safety precautions that come with working with combustible dust will have a much higher chance of succeeding in this potentially hazardous field.
